Esteban Ocon finished tenth at Spa, but moved up to ninth after George Russell’s disqualification, earning two points for Alpine. His teammate Pierre Gasly finished fourteenth, but finished thirteenth in the final standings.
Esteban Ocon (9th): “I am happy to earn points for the team after an exciting battle on the track. We had a good race pace and enough top speed to overtake Kemmel on the straight. All this was enough to finish in the top ten.
The positive aspects include the race pace and the fact that we didn’t have any problems with tyre wear. I think it would have been possible to finish one position higher if we had done it a little differently. My team and I will analyse everything to improve next time.
The decision to focus on preparing for the race proved to be the right one. “I will stay in Spa for a few more days to take part in the Pirelli tyre tests before the summer break.”
Pierre Gasly (13th): “Today’s race in Spa didn’t go well. I had a tight battle with my rivals – I didn’t have enough speed on the straights, and also I had to solve some problems regarding the temperature.
I think we were wrong today with the strategy: we could have finished the race with one pit stop. We need to analyse everything to perform better next time. We have not performed well in the last few weeks, but we should come back stronger after the summer break.
The first half of the season was difficult, but I am happy with some of the new products we have prepared. We need to keep improving the car to achieve more.”
