‘It’s unfortunate’: Leclerc on podium finish after Russell’s disqualification

Pilot “Ferrari” Charles Leclerc commented on his podium finish at the Belgian Grand Prix after the driver’s disqualification “Mercedes” George Russell .

On Sunday, Russell finished first in the race at the Spa circuit. After the finish, Russell’s car was found to be 1.5 kilograms lighter than the minimum permitted weight (798 kg), the driver’s result was annulled. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) was declared the winner of the race; Oscar Piastri (McLaren) took second place and Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc took third place.

— You never want to end up on the podium after one of your colleagues is disqualified. Mercedes did an incredible job. It wasn’t the weight difference that helped George win. They won because they were the stronger team. However, it’s difficult to make an exception in such things, and the reason why they were disqualified is clear. It’s a shame because George did an incredible job, as did Mercedes. But that’s part of racing,” Sky Sports quotes Leclerc.

The championship has entered a summer break, the next stage will take place from August 23 to 25 in the Netherlands.
