Guanyu Zhou is the only Formula 1 debutant this season. After thirteen races, the Alfa Romeo driver is seventeenth in the individual standings with five points scored. On stage in Hungary, Zhou spoke about how he evaluates his performances in 2022.
“Overall, I’m quite happy with how I spent the first half of the season,” Zhou told Racingnews365. – I was especially surprised that I regularly reach the final of the qualification. I didn’t think I would get such opportunities in my debut season, but in itself this is a great achievement.
On the other hand, such results have led me to now raise the bar for myself. Despite being a debutant, I feel disappointed every time I don’t get out of the first part of qualifying. Now for me the minimum task is to reach the second part, although the battle is very tight.
I think I achieved most of the goals, and in terms of number of retirements and accidents I even exceeded the plan! However, there are areas I need to work on with the team.
First of all, I’m talking about starts – we have serious problems with this – we start unstable. I believe that together with the team we can improve in this regard and I hope we will solve this problem soon.”
