Oliver Oakes is the new Alpine team principal

Alpine has announced a reshuffle in the team. Oliver Oakes has become the new head of the Formula 1 team, replacing Bruno Famen in this role.

The 36-year-old British specialist will lead the team after the summer break and report directly to Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group.

Oliver Oakes has extensive experience in leading racing teams. In 2015 he created the Hitech Grand Prix team, which competes in Formula 2 and Formula 3. In his youth Oakes was professionally involved in motorsport and in 2005 he became world champion in karting.

Luca de Meo: “We are delighted to welcome Oliver, who will be one of the youngest team leaders in the sport. The team is being built for future success and this is emphasised by Oliver’s appointment to a leadership role.

We look forward to using his enthusiasm, energy and passion for racing to bring that spirit to the rest of the team.”

Flavio Briatore: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract Oliver to our Formula 1 project. He is very talented and has already achieved great success in motorsport. His appointment to this position is a great example of strength and confidence in young and promising employees, and I am happy to work with him to work together to improve results and fight for victories.”

Oliver Oakes: “I am very grateful to Luca de Meo and Flavio Briatore for the opportunity to lead Alpine and make the team competitive again. We have a lot of talent and access to resources, so I am confident that we can achieve a lot in the second half of the season and in the long term. I will start after the summer break.”
