Guido van der Garde: I would replace Perez

Former Formula 1 driver Guido van der Garde has criticised Red Bull Racing’s decision to keep Sergio Perez in the team until the end of the season. According to the Dutchman, such a decision does not match the approach that the championship-winning team has always followed.

“It’s just an unbelievable decision,” Guido said on the DRS podcast. – In my opinion, it’s not in the Red Bull style. Red Bull has never given drivers so much time when they didn’t show results.

After the first four races, Perez’s results dropped off sharply and haven’t improved since. If you start second in Spa and finish seventh… He just didn’t have the pace in the race.

Christian Horner has consistently defended Perez, and his vote probably carries more weight than Helmut Marko’s. Horner’s decision to retain Perez makes sense, given the financial and political aspects. However, it could prove to be wrong.

“Given the fight for the constructors’ championship, I would replace Perez with another driver. I would give a young driver like Liam Lawson a chance. Or I would put a driver behind the wheel of the second car who knows Max, knows the team and doesn’t make mistakes. Daniel Ricciardo is the most logical choice.”
