Michael Schumacher’s Ferrari F2001B to be auctioned

Auction house RM Sotheby’s has auctioned the Ferrari F2001B driven by Michael Schumacher in the first two rounds of the 2002 season.

Collectors are invited to purchase chassis number 215. With this car Michael won the first round of the season in Melbourne, Australia, starting the road to his fifth championship title. Two weeks later in Malaysia, driving a Ferrari F2001B, he finished third.

This concluded Ferrari’s participation in the F2001B race. In the third leg of the season, Michael Schumacher and teammate Rubens Barrichello switched to the Ferrari F2002. However, chassis 215 was still used by the team for testing in April and May 2002. Luciano Burti worked behind the wheel of the car for five days, during which time he completed a total of 384 laps.

In 2003 the car was bought by a Swiss collector and in 2011 it changed owners, who put it up for auction. Ferrari will offer the new owner to take the F2001B to Maranello to have the engine, gearbox and clutch overhauled. After that the car can be driven on the race track.

The auction will take place on August 17, 2024 in Monterey, California. According to auction house RM Sotheby’s, the new owner will have to pay between eight and ten million dollars for the Ferrari F2001B.
