German publication F1-Insider published interesting information about Red Bull Racing’s decision to keep Sergio Perez in the team until the end of the season.
The publication’s source said that Formula 1 owners Liberty Media had reportedly appealed to the championship team’s management asking them not to fire Sergio Perez. The fact is that the Mexican racer is very popular in his native country, and Formula 1 owners feared that Perez’s dismissal would lead to a sharp drop in ticket sales for the Mexico City Grand Prix in October and thus to a drop in revenue for the podium promoters and Liberty Media.
It is difficult to judge to what extent the information from F1-Insider corresponds to reality. British publication PlanetF1 approached Liberty Media with a request for comment on the information from their German colleagues, but at the time of publication of the material there was no response from the owners of Formula 1.
