Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said during the Belgian Grand Prix that he was still considering the option of inviting Max Verstappen to replace Lewis Hamilton, but considered this option unlikely. Former Formula 1 team owner Eddie Jordan said on the Formula For Success podcast that Mercedes has already put together a budget to cover the Dutch driver’s salary expectations.
Eddie Jordan: “In Monaco, there was a meeting between Toto Wolff, Jim Ratcliffe from INEOS and Mercedes boss Ola Kallenius. Together they put together a budget that would cover any salary demands from Max. And Max knows about this. But I don’t know if he was at that meeting.
Of course, this gives an idea of how much Toto wants Max in his team. So we shouldn’t be surprised if we see Max driving a Mercedes in the coming years.”
