Daniel Ricciardo played for McLaren for two years and the team rejected his services at the end of 2022. Now the Woking team regularly fights for victories and claims the title. When asked to comment on McLaren’s current form, the Australian driver said he did not expect such progress from his former team.
Daniel Ricciardo: “Most of the time I was driving for McLaren I had to overcome difficulties and fight. Did I expect them to make so much progress? I won’t say what I expected, because I didn’t think so.
I suppose in some ways it was a surprise to everyone that in less than two years they have improved and now probably have the fastest car of them all. But I am not worried and I don’t think it could be my car. It is a sport and that is what happens sometimes.
You have to accept that every team in Formula 1 can make a big step forward in a short time.”
