Sebastian Vettel: The team did a great job

The Imola race was Aston Martin’s most successful of the season, scoring points for the first time, with both drivers finishing in the top ten…

Sebastian Vettel (8th): “Today the team did a great job, we took advantage of every opportunity that seemed to finish eighth. This is an important result for the team, which has become a reward for hard work. The cold and wet weather on Friday and Sunday clearly helped us, but we still had to take advantage of every opportunity to earn points.

We did this thanks to the optimal strategy, switching to slicks in time. Yes, we lacked speed on the track, but we kept tire wear under control and earned points with two cars. Now we’re looking forward to Miami.”

Lance Walk (10th): “Positive weekend for the team, nice to see both cars with glasses. The race turned out to be difficult, passed in changeable conditions and constant pressure from rivals – I really deserved this point.

On a dry track everyone had overheated tires but I managed to stop Hamilton and put pressure on Tsunoda, and after switching to Medium I managed to get away from the cars behind it.

I’m happy that we performed better this weekend and took advantage of all the opportunities. We will enjoy today and try to do better in the next races.”

Mike Krak, Team Principal: “Sebastian and Lance drove clear in a difficult race under varying conditions. On the first lap Sebastian climbed to ninth place and when the track dried up he decided to take a chance and be one of the first to switch to slicks. He rode seventh until the last laps and then dropped to eighth.

Lance also had an unmistakable race. He also had a good start, regaining positions on the first lap and enjoying the fight with Tsunoda. After the pit stop, he finished tenth, withstood the pressure of the line of cars behind him and earned his first point of the season.

We know there is still a lot to do, but this result is a good boost for the whole team.”
