In early July, the Alpine team conducted comparison tests with the participation of Mick Schumacher and Jack Duane at the wheel of the Alpine A522 2022 at the Paul Ricard circuit in France. It was assumed that based on the results of the test day, it would be easier for the team to decide which of these drivers to offer a contract for 2025, but the results of the races gave ambiguous results.
According to F1-Insider, Duane was faster in terms of speed on a single flying lap, but things are a bit more complicated. The fact is that Jack was behind the wheel for the first half of the day, when the track was faster, while Mick was working in the afternoon under less favorable conditions. In addition, Schumacher’s speed over a long series of laps was much better.
Alpine has not yet made a final decision on who will partner Pierre Gasly in 2025. Apparently, the choice really came down to two candidates, and it will be very difficult for the team management to make that decision.
