Former Aston Martin boss Otmar Szafnauer has commented on his former team’s results in the first half of the season. According to Otmar, Aston Martin has everything it needs to be in the top three, but the team is underperforming.
“Lawrence Stroll has created all the necessary infrastructure for the team to be among the leaders,” Otmar Szafnauer said on the James Allen podcast. “They have hired a lot of top-notch specialists, and I was part of that process. The team has good drivers: Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. I have worked with both of them.
But for some reason, I don’t know why, they are underperforming my expectations, as I am not that close to the team. The team’s capabilities are such that they should show better results than they are doing at the moment. At Silverstone they were generally the sixth or seventh fastest team.
I expected Aston Martin to fight in the top three. It is definitely in the top four. But for some reason they are far from such positions. To understand the reason, you have to be closer to the team.”
