Vitaly Petrov: I like the challenge in REC

On Sunday, Igora Drive near St. Petersburg will host the second round of the Russian Endurance Challenge series. Among the participants in the four-hour marathon is the first Russian Formula 1 racer Vitaly Petrov, who drives the BR03 prototype of the BR Engineering team. Commenting for F1News.ru, Vitaliy spoke about the features of his racing car and shared his thoughts on the track.

Vitaly Petrov: “I like that there is a challenge in this race. Any driver behind the wheel of our car will say it’s both a prototype and a formula. Something in between these two types, because it’s impossible to attack, like behind the wheel of formulas – more like a cross between a prototype and a GT car. The BR03 has an aerodynamic load, in some corners it is faster than the GT.

When I first got behind the wheel of the BR03, I immediately said I wouldn’t be riding it again. These are my honest words, but it was the first day of testing. A year and a half later, the car has noticeably changed – it’s already one whole, so now you can attack faster and faster.

Igora Drive is an interesting circuit, it has many interesting curves, which have their own secrets. The rider who finds an approach for them passes them faster.

I like that there are both fast and slow corners on this track, and I especially like the difficult corners with elevation changes. If you overdo it with the attack, you’ll easily fly off the track. Balance is important here and we haven’t been able to find it yet – some corners could be faster.”
