Experts believe Ferrari could buy assets from Maserati

In the 1950s, drivers in cars from the Italian company Maserati shone in Formula 1 – just mention the names of Juan Manuel Fangio, who won two titles with a Maserati, and Stirling Moss. But all that is a thing of the past, and now the Maserati factory team competes only in the electric Formula E, but cannot boast of any special achievements.

However, she has a number of victories to her name. Maserati sports cars can also be seen on the circuits of the European Fanatec GT2 series.

This company is part of the international conglomerate Stellantis, which was originally created to reduce the total costs of its participants. However, the group’s economic performance has been deteriorating recently, and the company’s head, Carlos Tavares, has already stated that a decision could eventually be taken to close the most unprofitable divisions.

Maserati, the well-known premium car manufacturer, is doing particularly badly: global sales of cars from the Italian brand have fallen by more than 50%. In the first half of the year, only 6,500 cars were sold, while in 2023 the figures for the same period were different: 15,300. The company’s losses therefore amount to tens of millions.

According to Automotive News Europe, Stellantis is developing a group-wide rescue plan, and one of the measures could include selling Maserati to its previous owners, namely Ferrari.

The Modena-based company was owned by Ferrari from 1997 to 2005, and it is possible that returning under the wing of such a financially and technologically powerful organization would be the best decision. And here Ferrari may need Maserati’s experience in the development and production of electric engines, after all, its works team has already spent two seasons in Formula E.

No decisions have been made yet, but if Maserati remains part of Stellantis, it will most likely lead to delays in the launch of new models, which will also have undesirable consequences. Of course, further participation in the electric car world championship could also be stopped.
