Besides racing, Antonelli enjoys basketball, pasta and dogs

Kimi Antonelli, a Mercedes youth program driver who is expected to be George Russell’s partner in the future, answered several questions on topics not directly related to motorsport…

Q: What sport do you enjoy most, other than racing?
Kimi Antonelli: Maybe basketball. Especially the American NBA championship. I would love to go to the US to watch a game. I hope I can do that soon, but generally I try not to miss the play-off games.

Q: Who is your favorite basketball player?
Kimi Antonelli: He’s already retired – this is Michael Jordan. And of those who continue to play now, I can name a few, but I choose LeBron James.

Q: If you could only eat one dish for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Kimi Antonelli: Pasta! I love pasta. But we have to clarify: I’m talking about pasta with ragu, not bolognese. I also love carbonara and amatriciana (pasta with a traditional sauce named after the Italian city of Amatrice). Yes, these are the three types of pasta I want to eat for the rest of my life.

Question: Where do you prefer to spend your holidays?
Kimi Antonelli: On the go-kart track! (laughs) But seriously, I love America. That’s why I just go there with my friends and take a drive along American roads.

I am always in a good mood when I am in the US, but I would also really like to visit New Zealand. I have heard a lot of positive reviews about this country, and my coach lived there for a few years, and he always tells me how great it is there. In general, I would also like to go there.

Q: What is your ideal non-race weekend?
Kimi Antonelli: Of course I would sleep a long time, because I try to rest as much as possible. And then I would spend time with friends – maybe we would go to the movies or do something else. And of course I would ride it on a simulator.

Q: Finally, do you prefer cats or dogs?
Kimi Antonelli: Definitely dogs! I had a German Shepherd and now I want to have the same dog again, but it will be hard for me to deal with him, because I am never home.

Moreover, when I first tried to ask my parents to take care of the dog, they categorically said no, although I didn’t even have time to stop talking. But I would really like to have a dog – maybe someday in the future it will work out…
