Brown: Formula 1 and FIA must return to their former powers

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, believes that the FIA and Formula 1 management should have more power to promote their decisions, as currently some difficulties are related to the teams being given too many rights, and they use this to their advantage.

Zac Brown: “I believe that teams have a collective responsibility for the fact that sometimes they create problems for themselves. It is because of them that the technical regulations have become too complex. When something happens, we all spend a lot of time trying to figure out all the nuances without thinking about the consequences. So I go back to the point I have always had: I would like to see teams have less power.

They should still have the same voting rights as they do now, but I would like to see us abandon the principle of absolute majority voting, so that 50 percent of the votes is enough to make decisions.

And now teams can easily negotiate with each other to block any decisions. That is why I believe that Formula 1 and the FIA should be restored to their former powers, so that they can act in the interests of the sport as they see fit. But not everyone agrees: some teams want the opportunity to influence the voting results.”
