Nick de Vries’ career will take another unexpected turn: the 29-year-old Dutchman will make his debut in the Japanese Super Formula series.
This year he returned to Formula E, where he raced for Mahindra Racing and also took part in endurance races for the Toyota factory team. But in the penultimate weekend of August he will spend two races at the Japanese circuit of Motegi, of course in a Team Impul car with Toyota engines.
He will then drive two more races at the Fuji Speedway in October. Incidentally, Nick will drive car number 7, in which another representative of European motorsport, Theo Pourcher, raced in Super Formula at the start of the season.
Rumor has it that de Vries was protected by Kamui Kobayashi, his teammate at Toyota Gazoo Racing. Of course, Nick will combine performances in Super Formula with WEC racing, as he has a long-term contract with the Japanese company’s team.
The next leg of the World Championship will be held in the USA on September 1, followed by the Fuji 6 Hours two weeks later and this will be a good preparation for the Super Formula leg at the same circuit, scheduled for October 11-13.
