Red Bull to make announcement about Liam Lawson in September

Red Bull has made a decision regarding Liam Lawson’s future and plans to make a statement on the matter in September.

A year ago, the New Zealander replaced the injured Daniel Ricciardo at AlphaTauri, spent five races with the Faenza team and scored points at the third attempt. Moreover, this was at the Singapore Grand Prix, where the city circuit is very difficult and the drivers have to endure extreme physical exertion.

Liam, 22, will remain a reserve driver for Red Bull Racing and Visa RB this season, but it looks like his somewhat uncertain position is about to change.

“We will make a statement in September about what will happen to Liam Lawson in the next phase of his career,” said Helmut Marko. “Even if our rivals want to loan him temporarily, he will not be available in that capacity.”

Apparently, this sentence from Red Bull’s motorsport advisor can be interpreted as follows: Lawson will get a place in one of the teams owned by the Austrian company. Marco’s words about another Red Bull youth program driver suggest the same idea: “Our Formula 2 driver Isaac Hadjar took his fourth win of the season in Spa. He definitely has the potential to go to Formula 1.

“We’ll see how events develop, but he’ll be entrusted with some role, that’s for sure. It’s possible that he’ll work as a test driver for a year and work in the simulator, as was the case with Lawson.”

So far, only Red Bull Racing drivers and Yuki Tsunoda (Visa RB) have contracts for next year, but Sergio Perez has been receiving more and more claims lately, so changes are possible at both teams. The big question is also whether Daniel Ricciardo will remain in Formula 1 next year, or will the Australian’s career come to an end after 14 seasons in the world championship?

The promised announcement about Lawson should bring some clarity to Red Bull’s personnel mix.
