Zac Brown admitted that he spoke to Carlos Sainz when he was choosing the right option to continue his career, and even gave him advice because he believes in his former driver.
In 2019 and 2020 Carlos drove for McLaren, then moved to Ferrari and has now signed with Williams and will spend the next two seasons with the Grove team.
“It is clear that we still consider him part of our family,” McLaren CEO Brown said in an interview with Spanish television channel DAZN. – He is still young, and when I spoke to him about his future I said: ‘Your next contract will not be your last, so go now to the team where you will feel comfortable, where you can show yourself and see how this team is going to progress.’
But you understand that there will be other vacancies in Formula 1 soon, so I think we will still see Carlos on the top step of the podium, I can tell you that for sure.”
Zac Brown’s words should be taken as a sign that Carlos Sainz will not stay at Williams for long – Helmut Marko has also hinted at this. However, everything will depend on two factors: the progress that Williams boss James Vowles hopes for, and the vacancies that may arise at top teams in the foreseeable future.
