Hulkenberg: Engineers are good at finding loopholes in the rules

Nico Hulkenberg has signed a multi-year contract with the Audi works team, which was founded from Sauber, but this season it is last in the championship and its position is unlikely to improve significantly next year.

However, Nico does not rule out that in 2026, when Formula 1 switches to new technical regulations, the picture will change. He particularly hopes that engineers will be able to find some loopholes in the regulations, as has happened more than once in the history of Formula 1.

Nico Hulkenberg: “Teams obviously invest a lot of money in infrastructure and hire good specialists to gain an advantage in some way. They make serious efforts in all these areas, but since the FIA tries to equalize the capabilities of the teams, the competitors in the championship can only do so much, and there are always certain contradictions.

But I think engineers always manage to find a way out. They show a very creative approach and gradually, by working with the regulations and analysing them, they discover some loopholes, some areas where they can be one step ahead of their rivals.

You can say that I am thinking about this calmly, especially because I still have no influence on anything, but I believe in the process itself. I believe that the FIA and Formula 1 are doing the right thing.

The new generation of cars will have new hybrid powertrains, but 50 percent of the power will still be generated by the combustion engine. I believe that the world is changing and Formula 1 must inevitably correspond with this.

I think our sport also has to go in this direction, taking into account the problem of climate change, etc. But if half of the power is generated by the combustion engine, and half by the hybrid part, then this is a completely normal ratio. This opens up the possibility of using synthetic fuels and the like in the near future.”
