Bottas: I do what I really like

We told you that Valtteri Bottas spends his summer holidays at his home above the Arctic Circle in the Finnish town of Kilpisjärvi. In an interview with Crash.net, the Finnish Sauber driver shared his idea of an ideal holiday.

Valtteri Bottas: “Sleep longer. I usually don’t wake up before 9:30-10:00. For breakfast I have a good cup of coffee, an egg and an avocado toast, then I get on my bike and go for a ride. Such trips give me pleasure, and in the evening it’s time for a sauna and a nice dinner. Although sometimes I can get by with a home-made hamburger, fried potatoes or pizza…

When I moved from Mercedes to the Hinwil team, I immediately felt more comfortable and had more fun in life. I really learned that not everything in life has to be taken so seriously. Then my self-confidence increased and I started laughing more in general.”

Valtteri’s activity on social networks is growing every year, he often shares funny photos with fans, and judging by the reaction of the public, many people like it.

“I manage my own pages on social networks, and if something funny happens to me, I usually try to talk about it, even if it’s just plain nonsense,” the Finn continued. – Although some publications are, of course, prepared by certain companies. For example, when we filmed an Uber commercial, their people came up with the script. When they asked me if I was ready to star in such a video, I happily agreed. And it turned out funny!

I don’t always make my plans in advance. Usually some things just happen to me, and that’s where it gets interesting.”

Valtteri has a wide range of business interests: he owns a 20% stake in Kahiwa, which runs a coffee shop in the Finnish city of Lahti, and also produces Oath gin and the Australian wine Ihana under its own brands.

“I am interested in doing this,” said Bottas. – Some projects develop more slowly, others more quickly. But above all I am passionate about doing what I really like, and I do not want to lose the money I have invested.

Ideally, we can earn something in the future, but passion is still paramount. This is exactly the basis of my interest. And when my racing career is over, I have already laid a good foundation. The day will come when my projects will yield profit.

Of course it is more difficult to do them during the season, but there are people who help me, so I can choose the time when I feel it is time to pay attention to other things.

I know for sure that I won’t feel empty when my career in motorsport ends. I have things to do, but that’s not the point. I want to do exactly these kinds of projects. As with any sport, you want to plan ahead for what you’re going to do when your career ends. My career is still going on though.”
