The Mercedes chassis will be different from the W15 in 2025

Mercedes has shown excellent form in several previous phases of the season, with its drivers taking three victories and in the second part of the championship the team hopes to build on these successes, while at the same time working on the 2025 car.

Furthermore, Mercedes made it clear that it will be significantly different from the W15, despite the fact that the technical regulations remain stable and will not change until 2026.

Next season will be the last under the regulations, which come into effect in 2022, and Mercedes chief race engineer Andrew Shovlin said preparations for that would have to be carefully considered given the team’s limited budget.

“We haven’t decided yet whether we’re going to have the same chassis, whether the gearbox is going to be the same,” RacingNews365 quotes him as saying. – Probably the reality is that there’s no way to change everything. We’re at the stage where we’re trying to find answers to all the questions, to analyse everything, to get the maximum effect from the money spent with a limited budget.”

On the one hand, we might expect the 2025 car to be the next evolution of the W15 in many ways, but Shovlin noted that there will be significant changes.

“I think our car and most teams’ cars will be aerodynamically modified versions of what we have today,” he said. – The changes will be significant, but I don’t want to change the chassis architecture, because that will require serious research in the wind tunnel, which will affect the further work. I don’t think many will do that.”
