This weekend saw the start of the traditional motorsports festival Monterey Motorsports Reunion in California, and it is considered a milestone as historic cars have been racing at the legendary Laguna Seca circuit since 1974.
Over the last 50 years, these very interesting competitions have become very popular; up to 400 cars from different classes take part, but this year there may be even more.
McLaren Racing CEO Zac Brown is one of those historic racing enthusiasts who has a collection of famous cars and doesn’t want to miss the Monterey festivals. This year, his United Autosports team brought three cars to California: the Jaguar XJR-8 sports prototype that raced in the 1987 World Endurance Championship, the beat-up BMW 320i sports car and the Williams FW07B championship-winning car that Alan Jones drove in 1980.
Zach Brown is competing in all three, pre-qualifying already behind him, after which he commented on his social media pages about their results: “First day at the track in Monterey with United Autosports – everything is great here, as always in Laguna Seca.
Two excellent qualifying races are behind me – I showed a third result in Williams, a fourth place in Jaguar. But there are some problems with BMW that we will try to solve. We are in a good mood and are getting ready for tomorrow’s races!”
