Pierre Vache: Max succeeds in what no one else can

There is little doubt that Max Verstappen will win a fourth consecutive title this year, just as Sebastian Vettel, the first driver to win a world championship for Red Bull Racing, did.

At the same time, the Dutchman is only 26 years old and it is not without reason that he is already one of the best drivers in the history of Formula 1. Max has 61 victories, 40 pole positions and in total in his 199 Grand Prix he stood on the podium 107 times. In general, the statistics are more than impressive.

But Pierre Vache, technical director of Red Bull Racing, prefers not to compare Verstappen with motorsport stars, but with heroes from other sports.

When asked what sets Verstappen apart from others, Vache replied: “He can be compared to all the legendary athletes who competed in any other sport. Some people manage to do things that no one else can do. I don’t know why, but he is able to do it. In that respect, he is similar to Roger Federer, to Michael Jordan.

The driver’s job is to control the behavior of the car, and thanks to his abilities, Max can drive like no other. This gives him, first of all, the opportunity to free up brain resources, so that while driving the machine he can simultaneously analyze what he wants to achieve and what actions need to be taken to achieve it.

He has an interesting approach to giving feedback to engineers, while driving the car to its limits and working with it in a way that no one else can.

It is very important for the team to receive information from both drivers so that we understand in which direction we need to move in the process of modernizing the equipment and eliminating its shortcomings, because building a fast car is generally not such a difficult task. It is more difficult to make it comfortable for a driver to drive a fast car, so it is important for us to understand the specifics of a driver’s work behind the wheel of such a car…”

Presumably yours refers to the difference in results between Verstappen and his partner Sergio Perez, which can mainly be explained by the fact that the team focuses mainly on this very special style, characteristic of Max, when creating and refining the car.
