Vasseur: Ferrari’s mentality gradually changing

The arrival of Frederic Vasseur as team leader changed the situation at Ferrari within a year. The great successes that are always expected of the Scuderia were not achieved, but with Vasser came stability, without which real success is impossible.

Frederic Vasseur: “Of course we wanted more and sometimes we overreacted, but more often than not the pressure just gets in our way. It is important to stay calm.

But calmness does not mean indifference. When things are not going well, emotions are inevitable, but they should become a source of further progress and help to achieve more.

When we had a bad weekend [Канада, Испания, Австрия и Великобритания]the mood in the team was not very good, but a positive attitude helped to find the cause, remove it and make up for lost time.

The result is a consequence. The most important thing is that we try to change the mentality and stop being afraid to take risks. If you want to win, you have to take risks.

Some see the positive aspects, others are always looking for an opportunity to improve. I am more of the latter. I don’t waste energy and time asking every morning: “Are we happy with what we have done?”

This is a competition. I’ve done nine races in ten weeks, including Le Mans. With such a schedule it’s important to focus on your weak points and constantly improve.

But that’s okay. One of the characteristics of the Italian team is their emotionality. Sometimes my job is to stay calm in both positive and negative situations. But there are signs that Ferrari’s mentality is gradually changing.

Yes, we celebrated Charles Leclerc’s long-awaited victory in Monaco, but when the pendulum swung and none of our cars could finish the next race, we didn’t have a huge wave of emotions. Everyone stayed calm and knew that there was still a lot of work to be done.”
