Haas F1 was satisfied with customer solutions from Ferrari and Dallara for many years. In an interview with RacingNews365, team boss Ayo Komatsu said that he was able to regain the trust of Gene Haas in order to attract investment from him.
Ayo Komatsu: “Even before we had great results at Silverstone and Austria, Gene approved several ideas that we had been trying to get approval for for a long time. So even without these two steps, we regained Gene’s trust, although their results helped a lot.
Sometimes I call it baby steps: we want to move faster, but there is a certain speed at which we can move without loss. And here we need balance.
Gene freed up money for a new camper. This is a significant investment. Before we used the old one, the team had it from day one. We tried to get it approved last year, but it didn’t work because the performance of the vehicle was unsatisfactory.
Gene always says to me, “I don’t mind investing at all, as long as we’re working and improving.” I understood this from day one, I realized that I had to learn to do everything at the same time.
Gene is investing in the team, we are hiring people even though they are not yet working, and we are increasing resources. Gene is constantly investing, but it will take some time before the effect of these investments is felt.”
