Vasseur: We have races waiting for us on circuits that suit us

Frederic Vasseur, Ferrari’s team boss, insists that there is no need to dramatize the recent drop in results, as there are races ahead at circuits more suited to the SF-24 car. But at the same time, he made it clear that the problems could be repeated at Zandvoort.

Frederic Vasseur: “We still have several races ahead of us on circuits that suit us: Monza, Baku and Singapore. They suit our car because of their configuration, but as always the most important thing is to keep earning points.

This is exactly the task we set ourselves in preparation for the Spa stage, where it was important not to lose points to McLaren and Red Bull – and we have practically completed it. We must set ourselves the same goal at Zandvoort, because I am convinced that at the circuits where three or four races will take place after the Dutch Grand Prix, we will be in a more favourable position.”

According to Vasseur, the example of Mercedes shows that even small progress during a given weekend can ultimately yield the desired result: “I think Mercedes set a good example for everyone in Belgium, because on Friday this team had serious problems.

It wasn’t like she was at the very end of the peloton, but she lost about two tenths. However, as soon as you manage to correct something or take a small step forward again, you can immediately rise from the 7th or 8th line of the protocol to the 1st or 2nd place.

That’s why we keep on persevering and try not to lose sight of any nuance. And the situation is very different from two years ago, when we could finish in 4th or 7th place, while losing 60 seconds to Max Verstappen.

In Hungary we finished in the same position as a year ago, but at the same time we didn’t lose 60 seconds, but only 20. The most important thing now is to keep working on all fronts and try not to overreact to what’s happening and pay more attention to details. I have a pretty positive feeling at this stage of the season.”
