Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur has explained why he decided to inform Carlos Sainz early enough that his contract would not be extended…
Frederic Vasseur: “If we evaluate the first part of the season, given that Carlos missed Jeddah, Carlos acted very well.
Sainz is professional and very stable, so I wanted to make an announcement as early as possible so he could focus on his work. It was clear that he would have to sign for another team at some point and that could be a distraction, but Carlos is a mega professional, he has been this season from day one, just like last year.
The last few weeks before the summer break, journalists had more questions than before, which hampered the work, but if you remember the qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix, he did very well in the first and second sessions and only made a mistake on the last lap of the final. There is no need to draw conclusions from the fact that he braked only five meters later, this is not the result of anything; he was ahead of Charles in the first two sessions.”
