Jacques Villeneuve: Stroll is as fast as Alonso

Jacques Villeneuve is usually prepared to criticise any driver if there is a reason to do so – at least according to the 1997 world champion. And there are no authorities for him. It is all the more surprising when he stands up for those who are often abused. In this case, we are talking about Lance Stroll, Fernando Alonso’s team-mate at Aston Martin.

“Of course Lance deserves a place in Formula 1”, Villeneuve does not hesitate and these are the arguments he puts forward. – And everything is simple here: this team could have gone bankrupt without Lawrence Stroll, so he rightly invited his son to Aston Martin and left him in Formula 1.

Lance is not in last place and is not inferior to Fernando Alonso in terms of pace. From the moment Alonso extended his contract with the team, he started to have problems and Lance’s performances make a more pleasant impression.”

Villeneuve stressed that in the past in Formula 1 there were many people from very wealthy families; it is enough to mention Niki Lauda and Ayrton Senna. Now it is Lando Norris and Lance Stroll, which is quite normal, as long as these drivers show good results.

“Lance was lucky, but there is nothing wrong with that. He just has to show that he can be fast in racing,” Villeneuve added.
