Oscar Piastri is living up to the expectations placed on him at McLaren and may even exceed them. He won the Hungarian Grand Prix last month and has been on the podium four times this season, including a second place in the Belgian round before the summer break.
Flavio Briatore said in the Formula for Success podcast that the 23-year-old Australian has all the necessary qualities to become world champion. Moreover, the Alpine F1 consultant even said when exactly this will happen.
“Piastri is already one of the best riders. He will be world champion, and if he doesn’t succeed next year, he will succeed in 2027,” Briatore believes. “About three races before he won in Hungary, I said he would be one of the best riders of the next decade.”
There is no point in doubting Briatore’s predictions about Piastri, since he usually knows what he is talking about. The point is that Flavio still has close contacts with Mark Webber, whose manager he once was. And now it is Mark who is looking after Piastri’s career and doing so successfully.
Going into the second half of the season, Oscar is fourth in the personal standings, just 10 points behind Charles Leclerc, who completes the top three.
