Max’s dream of racing with his father at Le Mans will remain a dream

During his motorsport career, Jos Verstappen has competed in various racing categories, including winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 class.

In 2008, together with his teammates from the Dutch team Van Merksteijn Motorsport, he won the legendary marathon, driving a sports prototype Porsche RS Spyder Evo with a 3.4-liter V8 engine producing more than 500 hp.

That is why Max Verstappen, his famous son, winner of three Formula 1 titles, has long dreamed of one day competing in the same team at Le Mans with his father, something he has spoken about on more than one occasion.

Let us quote his words from five years ago: “I have not negotiated these issues yet, but I want to compete at Le Mans one day. I don’t know when it will happen, but I have already discussed it with my father, so he still has to practice a bit. If I am going to compete at Le Mans, I want to do it together with my father…”

But it seems that the elder Verstappen has no desire to return to endurance racing. In an interview with Verstappen.com, the 52-year-old driver made logical arguments explaining why this will not happen: “No, now I like rallying. I like rallies much more, but let the youngsters race at Le Mans.”

Joos is quite successful in the Belgian Rally Championship, regularly finishing on the podium, and he races more for his own pleasure: “I am gaining the necessary experience, I already have a more professional approach to races and our car is also better. In addition, my co-driver has more experience now and we try to make progress in every race.

“We fight for victories, this is what gives us pleasure. But I don’t want to compete in the World Rally Championship, that would take up too much time. We just choose rallies that seem interesting to us and every now and then we compete in other countries.”
