During the four stages of the season before the summer break, McLaren drivers earned 129 points, while Red Bull Racing added just 78. Even Max Verstappen has failed to win recently, and his team-mate Sergio Perez has been so unconvincing that doubts exist about his future prospects.
At the same time, McLaren is doing very well and if Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri continue to finish in the top three with the same regularity, it cannot be ruled out that the Woking team will challenge Red Bull Racing for the constructors’ championship at the end of the season.
Not everyone shares this optimism, however. Alex Albon, a former Red Bull driver now in his third season with Williams, believes the championship-winning team still has the edge in one very important area.
“Despite everything, I still see how well the Red Bull team works,” Albon told RacingNews365. “It seems to me that even now they have not lost their superiority in the accuracy of the races. In general, they always stand out with very good pit stop tactics. Even if Red Bull does not always have the fastest car, they always do a great job – this is demonstrated by Max Verstappen or by the team as a whole.
I think this is one of the main advantages of Red Bull, which developed during the time when they lost to Mercedes: they managed to create a very strong racing team. In that respect, in my opinion, they are still superior to other teams.
Eventually their rivals will catch up. I think this is a big advantage of stable regulations: if they don’t change, teams have time to catch up with the leaders…
I see people discussing the delay in the modernization of the Red Bull car: since the team has reached its peak, it has not been possible to increase the speed of the car. I think it suggests that at some point you reach a certain limit, because the regulations limit you in what you can do.
