Briatore: Now it doesn’t matter who becomes an Alpine racer

When news broke two months ago about Flavio Briatore’s return to the paddock – now as an advisor to Alpine, and in fact as a personal advisor to Groupe Renault boss Luca de Meo, with very broad powers – the news came as a surprise to many.

The French car manufacturer’s factory team is once again in crisis, with very serious changes taking place, including a new management change, and there are already suggestions that Briatore is preparing to sell to new owners.

Whether this is true or not, and whether such predictions will come to pass, only time will tell, but for the time being the name of the 74-year-old Italian manager, who at various times led the team from Enstone and competed in the World Championship under one guise or another, will be heard with increasing frequency in the context of Alpine F1 news.

They remain one of the few teams that have not confirmed their 2025 line-up. So far, it is only known that Pierre Gasly will continue to compete for them, but the name of his partner has not been mentioned. It could be Jack Douhan, currently Alpine’s reserve driver, although he has no experience in Formula 1. But Briatore does not see that as a problem.

“It doesn’t matter now who will be the Alpine driver,” he said. – But in 2026, 2027, 2028, this question will already be important. If we have a good car in 2026, we need good drivers. In the meantime, the car is not efficient enough, we have to focus all our energy on solving technical problems so that next season we can fight for better results with the Alpine cars.”
