Tom Coronel advises Bottas to make way for youngsters

Dutch driver Tom Coronel, a veteran of European touring racing who at 52 has still not hung up his helmet, criticised Valtteri Bottas in the pages of Formula 1 magazine.

According to Coronel, who also works as an expert with television channel RTL and participates in programs dedicated to Formula 1, it is time for the Finn to think about saying goodbye to his career – at least in the World Championship.

“We have the right to expect better results from a driver of Bottas’ level,” says Tom. – The transition from the best team to one of the worst is always difficult, but I would advise him to make way for someone young and promising. He must understand that the time has come to retire, because he still has no points to his name this year.

It’s time to do something different. Let him go back to Finland and make funny videos there. We need to make room for those who need to develop and gain experience. And now he’s actually taking away career prospects for young racers. This year he didn’t show anything at all – apparently age takes its toll…”

Recently, a publication in much the same vein appeared in the Swiss tabloid Blick, the author of which is also unhappy about the fact that Sauber/Audi underestimate the importance of working with young people in anticipation of Formula 1’s transition to a new generation of technology.
