Steiner: I wanted to move forward, but the owner didn’t

Former Haas F1 boss Guenther Steiner reiterated in an interview with How To Fail that he should have left the team earlier than he did, as his desire for progression was not being met.

Günter Steiner: “I tried to find a solution that would help the team overcome the crisis. And when my ideas were not accepted, I didn’t care anymore. I didn’t want to take the blame for the team ending up where it did. This didn’t happen because of me, but for some other reason.

I should have left earlier. If you feel something is wrong, you have to listen to it. I did have that feeling, but in Formula 1 you become an attraction and you get used to that quickly.

It is often said that failure teaches you. In my opinion, it is better to be careful with it. It hurts to fall from a great height, but I realized that next time I will listen more to my inner feelings.

In my life I usually don’t do anything without the desire to win. I don’t do motorsports just to have a job. I’m here because I want to win something.

Maybe that’s why I left, because I wanted to move forward and the team owner didn’t. Fighting, finding yourself seventh or eighth over and over again – it gets boring.

“It’s better to take one step back and then take two steps forward than to stand still. It’s very difficult to win a championship. I can’t say I would win it with another team, but I want to at least have a chance to win.”
