With ten Grands Prix to go before the end of the season, Lando Norris is 78 points behind Max Verstappen but still hopes to fight for the title. On Thursday at Zandvoort, the McLaren driver said the summer break had helped him improve his weaknesses.
Lando Norris: “I am fighting for the title and I can only be satisfied when I perform at a higher level that allows me to beat Red Bull, Max and other drivers. I am happy with the way the season is going, but I made too many mistakes and missed too many points. This is not the level I need to be at to qualify for the title.
During the summer holidays I worked hard and got stronger. There is nothing I would like to change more than the first round – there I often missed the chance to achieve more.
After the first lap the race went well, at a high pace, and the strategy was mine. We have many strong points, but with a bad start or a bad first corner we often lost positions, also because we were too cautious and tried to avoid mistakes.
The team has a bigger chance of winning the Constructors’ Championship than I do in the individual competition, but theoretically I can still be champion. I know the gap is big, but when you are performing at a high level and everything is going well, you want to believe that victory is possible.”
