Albon: Williams should supply two equal cars

Carlos Sainz will be Alex Albon’s new teammate at Williams next season. In Zandvoort, the Thai driver spoke about the upcoming collaboration with the Spaniard and stressed separately that the team cannot afford a situation in 2025 where the drivers have cars in different configurations at their disposal.

Alex Albon: “A leading driver from a top team will bring a lot to Williams. We need his experience and his speed. I don’t know Carlos as well as other drivers, but we get along well. I like to compete with the best drivers and I am sure that he and I will have a great partnership. We can learn a lot from each other.

Carlos’ experience will help the team improve. I’ve been at Williams for a few years now, so he and I will have a different perspective on things, but that will only help us.

Next year we have to make sure we have two cars that are equally fast in terms of speed. This is a serious job. This season we have not always had two identical cars, and the team has to correct this next year. We have to improve, because we do not want to have another season like this.

Carlos’ arrival motivates all the staff. I saw the reaction of the team when it was announced that he would join us. It was great.

Moreover, we cannot underestimate his experience. He knows how the Ferrari drives and will be able to compare it with our car. It will be very interesting to hear about our weaknesses and such.

Of course I have an opinion about our weaknesses, but when you switch from another car you have a different opinion and that’s very good.”
