During the summer break, Oscar Piastri announced on social networks that he had spent the last few races, including in Hungary, where he won his first Grand Prix, with a broken rib. At Zandvoort, the McLaren driver revealed more details about his injury.
“We were adjusting the seat at the beginning of the year and probably made a small mistake,” Oscar said before the start of the Dutch Grand Prix. “At some circuits you don’t feel it, but after racing in Barcelona, Austria and Silverstone, three hardcore circuits, the problem showed up.
Due to the incorrect fit of the chair, at some point pressure was created, and at some point the rib gave way. But now everything is fine and we immediately replaced the chair. Everything is back to normal.”
Piastri added that he only found out about the fracture after the British Grand Prix, but assumes he was injured in Spielberg: “I went for an X-ray the day after the race at Silverstone, but the rib was definitely broken before Silverstone. It most likely happened sometime during the race weekend in Austria.”
