Fernando Alonso: Developing a new car is more important than points

Fernando Alonso said the team’s priority in the remaining races of the season must be to gather information that will help develop the 2025 car. For this, the Aston Martin driver is willing to sacrifice earned points.

“We will fight for ninth and tenth place in every race,” Fernando Alonso said during a meeting with reporters at Zandvoort. – The first four teams in each race have a lead of 30 to 45 seconds on us, so to get into the top eight we need one of the leaders to retire.

But even in such a situation, securing ninth or tenth place is not so easy. In fact, it was not achieved in the previous two races. However, our goal every weekend is to reach the qualifying final and fight for points. But there are things that are more important than results.

We have a lot to test and a lot of ideas to test in practice that we want to implement in next year’s car. My main motivation, or if you like, hope for the remaining ten races is to find answers to a lot of questions and finish the season with a good understanding of where we need to go. [в разработке новой машины].

It doesn’t matter if we earn points or not. It’s much more important to get the team off to a strong start next year.”
