In Zandvoort, Oliver Oakes will take up his role as head of Alpine. Team driver Esteban Ocon shared his first impressions of the collaboration with the British specialist.
Esteban Ocon: “I met Oliver a while ago. We spoke a lot with him, he wants to learn as much as possible about the team and he is interested in the opinion of the riders, as he is a former racer himself. He has a lot of experience in motorsport and will be on track tomorrow. I wish him the best of luck and I am ready to work with him until the end of the season.
There is no doubt that Oliver has a lot of work ahead of him. Leading a team in the middle of the season is not the easiest task, but I am sure that a professional of this calibre will get the hang of it very quickly.”
Speaking about the team’s prospects for the second half of the season, Esteban made a less than encouraging prediction: “We knew that our car was historically fast at Spa and looked better than at other circuits. I knew we would have a chance to score points and we had to take it.
We know that the second half of the season will be much more difficult, but the team will still try to do the maximum. We will see what results we show this weekend, but during the last round in Spa the car was fast and performed as expected.
Since the start of the season we have made clear progress. In Bahrain we were on the last row, and now we are fighting for places at the finish in the top ten. But in some races, for example in Budapest, we had serious problems and were far from earning points.
Later in the season there are tracks where we will find it more difficult than Spa or Canada, but we will try to get the most out of the car and hopefully we will succeed.”
