The home Dutch Grand Prix will be Max Verstappen’s 200th race of his career, but at the FIA press conference in Zandvoort the three-time world champion said he does not intend to spend that much more in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen: “The holiday flew by way too quickly, it would be nice to add another week. It’s good that I’ve regained my strength, I hardly thought about Formula 1 for a while, but now the home phase of the championship awaits me and these days I have a bit more to do than usual.
But I’m glad we’re in Zandvoort, and although there is, as always in these parts, a big chance of rain, it’s normal for me and I’m already looking forward to the weekend.
I am about to drive my 200th race in Formula 1, but I will not drive another 200 races in the championship, that is for sure. Of course, there is an incredible journey of 200 Grands Prix behind us, although I do not feel like it has been that many. Although the number of races is of course growing quite quickly now that the calendar consists of such a large number of stages.
If we talk about which of them are the most memorable, then of course the first victory always evokes the strongest emotions, because since childhood you dream of standing on the podium in Formula 1. When you stand on top of the podium for the first time, and then you become the world champion for the first time, all these experiences are completely unforgettable. In general, I would like to emphasize these two points.
I have managed to win all three previous races in Zandvoort, but given how this season is going, repeating those successes will of course not be easy. Also because the rivalry in the championship has increased and now many more teams can fight for victories. Going into the weekend, I am not confident that we can win the race.
Of course, during the summer vacation we did a lot of analysis of the situation, and now I will try to act a little differently than before, or better than before. Let’s see what comes of it.”
