In early 2022, Haas F1 terminated its contracts with driver Nikita Mazepin and with title sponsor Uralkali, owned by his father Dmitry.
Uralkali responded by demanding that Haas repay the previously paid sponsorship fee. The team objected, insisting on the right to terminate the contract, and the parties continued to discuss the issue in court.
We wrote that on June 12, the arbitration court ordered Haas F1 to return the balance of the sponsorship money from the terminated contract to Uralkali, including interest and arbitration costs. In addition, the court gave Haas F1 one month to return the race car to Uralkali for the 2021 season, in accordance with the terms of the sponsorship agreement. This has not been done.
After giving Haas F1 two months to act, Uralkali’s lawyers have asked Dutch authorities to seize the team’s cars and equipment after the race weekend unless the money is transferred. Bailiffs arrived in the paddock on Thursday to take stock.
According to Racingnews365.com, Dutch bailiffs, accompanied by police, made an inventory of Haas F1 racing equipment and other property on Thursday evening. After the visit by the Dutch authorities, Haas drew attention to the arbitration decision and promised to resolve the matter in the near future.
Uralkali stress that they only want to get what was awarded during the trial, and hope that Haas F1 will quickly correct the situation and the parties can move on.
