Christian Horner has denied the suggestion that Liam Lawson is already assured of a place in one of the Red Bull teams. Speaking on Sky Sports TV, the Red Bull Racing boss gave his own interpretation of the words that Helmut Marko said a few days ago.
“The decision will be made in September, but next year he will definitely be driving one of our cars,” a Red Bull motorsport consultant told Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung.
“It could also mean that we could loan Liam to someone else. No decisions have been made yet,” Horner stressed. “If we do not exercise the option on Liam’s services, he will be free for 2025. Our contracts with riders stipulate specific periods during which this condition will apply.

According to Horner, Red Bull Racing still expects Sergio Perez to improve to help the team retain the lead in the Constructors’ Championship. Although the Mexican driver’s recent form has left much to be desired, the gap to McLaren has already been reduced to 42 points.
“That’s because with two cars we don’t earn points. “We understand this,” admitted the head of the championship team. “But we had penalties for changing engines and there were races where we didn’t finish. We understand well what needs to be done to change the situation, and I am confident that we will succeed.
It is important to show results. We remain convinced that both riders are capable of delivering the best results for us. If there was any doubt about that, we would change something. We have data on the performance of all our riders, and if we felt that one of them could deliver better results, we would have already made changes to the team composition.
“However, we believe that Red Bull Racing can retain the Constructors’ Championship with this line-up. Max and Sergio achieved two first places in the championship last year and were 1st and 3rd the year before. There is no need to rush to judgment on Sergio. We are working hard to give him the chance to regain his old form. He can do it and we fully support him.”
