According to the qualifying results, the McLaren drivers will start from first and third positions in Zandvoort, with Lando Norris taking his fourth pole position with a more than convincing lead.
Lando Norris (1st): “Great day! I’m happy to be back on track and to win pole position straight away. I had a really good lap, qualifying went smoothly in general and we did some good laps, especially towards the end of the last session, which was the most important. Great work from the whole team and I’m really happy with today’s result.”
But getting there was harder than it looks from the outside. As the weekend went on I was complaining about the conditions, about the state of the track, because every lap it wasn’t clear what to expect, how far you can attack, where is the limit of what is possible? But ultimately it’s our job to find that limit.
It was not easy, but I felt comfortable behind the wheel. The car made a great impression, the new products worked fine – after a break, the MCL38 received updates, for which we must thank the team.
“I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s race, although I’m sure it will be difficult. Max Verstappen has shown good speed all weekend and although we were ahead of him today, he still set the second fastest time and will try to give us a fight, especially at his home Grand Prix.”
