Alex Albon: It was like a lottery

Alex Albon performed well in qualifying in Zanforte, despite difficult conditions to reach the final, and on Sunday he will start from 8th position. Logan Sargent, his Williams teammate, crashed his car in the third practice session, which meant he did not participate in the qualifying races.

Alex Albon (8th): “I am very happy with the 8th result and the fact that technical innovations helped to achieve this. The wind was blowing very strongly and gusty, and it seemed that this could have affected the car that was 10 seconds ahead in a completely different way. And when the intervals between the cars were less than half a second, it felt like it was all a lottery.

In modernizing the car, we were able to make a noticeable step forward in terms of reducing the weight of the chassis, but we also introduced a number of new aerodynamic elements. Moreover, this is not the whole range of updates and soon we will receive the next new items, so our prospects look good.

The FW46 was driving more and more confidently with each successive lap and it was great that we could show a good result despite the difficult conditions, and we were also happy with the performance of the new products. Today we can be happy, so a big thank you to the whole team for their efforts in modernizing the car. Tomorrow we will fight for the points, I have no doubt about that.”

Logan Sargent (did not participate in the qualification): “A small mistake had serious consequences: I just ended up in the grass and that was the end for me. Of course the impact on the bumpstop was very strong, but I am fine.

The team will have a lot of work to do to restore the car, and I sympathize with everyone who will be working late into the night to get the equipment ready for tomorrow’s race. We have no choice but to try to rebuild, start from scratch and have a good race.”
