Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali is keen to make a decision this year on the future of the Dutch Grand Prix, whose contract expires in 2025…
Stefano Domenicali: “This stage was called the best for years. The organizers in Zandvoort were one of the first to understand how to organize such an event – with a lot of entertainment and where the sport was central. In this they have become an example for many other organizers, and we will not forget that.
Sometimes people say that we only need street racing, but that is not true at all. We are looking for the optimal balance. Racing on the street, but also on iconic circuits and sometimes at night. We want a total package that will appeal to everyone.
It is no secret that we are considering different options for the future of the Dutch Grand Prix. Maybe this race will be held annually, or alternated with another stage – it all depends on the possibilities of the organizers. Our goal is to sign a contract by the end of this year. I am convinced that Zandvoort has a future. They deserve it.
The ball is now in Zandvoort’s court. I think we can continue to grow together. There is a possibility to make this event more international. The stage returned to the calendar as a very local, almost purely Dutch phenomenon. But it can be expanded a bit, attracting more people from abroad.
Near Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport. There is a possibility to make this event more international. That is how we look at it in Formula 1: using the sport for the economic benefit of the country and the business community.”
