Ricciardo: I understand the situation is very serious

Daniel Ricciardo admitted before the weekend at Zandvoort that he was not in negotiations with other teams and only hoped that he could show convincing enough results behind the wheel of the Visa RB car.

“With this approach I am putting everything on one card, but I also think that with this approach I can give the best of myself,” he said then. But in yesterday’s qualifying Ricciardo only showed the 16th fastest time, failed to qualify for the second session and lost again to Yuki Tsunoda, his team-mate.

It is clear that this has not instilled optimism in the Australian, who knows that Red Bull will decide in the coming weeks the future fate of Liam Lawson, who has long been waiting for his turn in Formula 1. Every failed performance by Ricciardo becomes a new argument in favor of the young and promising New Zealander.

When Daniel was asked if all this constant talk about his situation and uncertain prospects distracted him from his work, he replied in the negative, but he did not hide that he was angry about what was happening.

“No, they’re not distracting,” GPBlog quotes him as saying. – Honestly, I understand that the situation is very serious. I know what needs to be done, and I know I can’t do it. When you feel like you’re failing, it’s frustrating.

Look, in qualifying you want to drive as aggressively as possible. I feel like sometimes my approach has been too calm. And at the same time, if you’re not fast enough, while you’re piloting calmly and driving slowly, it’s frustrating.

Let’s say it was a bad session. But in my position, every qualifying, every race is important. In general, regardless of whether it was me, the car or something else, it’s about the fact that I didn’t do a good enough job in the first part of qualifying. We have to admit it and try to do better.”
