Jack Douhan’s Formula 1 debut depended on Carlos Sainz’s decision. The experienced Spaniard applied for a vacancy at Alpine, which Duen, the French team’s reserve driver, hoped to fill. Jack worked on the simulator all year, taking part in tests and dreaming of a debut, but his future depended on external factors.
In an interview with Sky Sports F1, the young Australian said he was delighted when Sainz chose Williams.
Jack Duane: “It’s not easy to accept that your future is decided by someone else. Obviously, every team in the middle group would like to invite a driver like Sainz – an experienced driver who has won races. But in the end, everything worked out well. I was delighted when Carlos announced his contract with Williams.
In the summer I found out that the team was considering different options and that I had a chance. In addition, other candidates were tied to existing contracts. I had to be patient and wait.
I am confident that I have made the right choice and want to contribute to the team’s progress and help them return to a high level.”
