McLaren hopes for the effectiveness of new products

The McLaren team has another round of updates ready for the Dutch Grand Prix, and we talked about the new products it unveiled at Zandvoort. Judging by the size of the lead that Lando Norris took to pole yesterday, they are working quite effectively, which is generally in line with the expectations of Rob Marshall, the Woking team’s chief designer.

Rob Marshall: “We are finalising the car in line with our MCL38 modernisation programme. There are certain aspects we are not entirely sure about, some moments may be more risky, others less so, although the weather conditions mean it is not easy to fully assess the effectiveness of the new products this weekend.

We also don’t want to bring some new products to the sprint stages, as it is difficult to test them in such weekends. That’s why we decided to present the whole range of updates in Zandvoort.

We introduced the previous big series of new products in Miami, and to be honest we were surprised how well it worked. And now we are again placing serious hopes on this phase of the chassis modernization, although not as high as in May in Florida…”
