Lando Norris won the Dutch Grand Prix by over twenty seconds, surprising even his team. According to the McLaren driver, he was confident he could win after the first few laps.
Lando Norris: “I can’t call the race perfect, because I had problems again on the first lap, but after that everything went great! The pace was excellent, the car worked incredibly well and I felt quite comfortable behind the wheel.
The most important thing is that I was able to overtake Max Verstappen, after which it became easier. Although the race followed a completely linear scenario, it was still difficult in its own way, but I had a lot of fun.
I am happy that the stands are well filled with spectators, and we also have many fans among the Dutch, and I am grateful for their support. Although my victory upset some of course, but I hope everyone enjoyed the race.
I think I was confident from the very beginning of the race that I could win. Maybe somewhere around the 5th or 7th circle. I expected Max to improve and build up a lead, but that didn’t happen – then I realised we would still be fighting!
At the same time, his pace gradually dropped and I rode faster and faster, and this encouraged me. I could attack, the track in front of me was clear and that always helps.”
